In this study, the impact of surface deposition on the efficiency of a paper machine's centrifugal cleaning system was investigated. The study reveals that surface deposition can reduce the cleaning efficiency of a centrifugal cleaner with regard to coating flakes from coated broke. Further studies show that both cleaner material and material surface smoothness significantly impact the rate of deposition on the cleaner. Both laboratory and machine experiments conclude that cleaner efficiency can be maintained to design specifications by the proper selection of cleaner material.
