Snap-cure epoxies can shorten product cycle time and improve the manufacturing process of crystals and oscillators. However, of the many snap-cure epoxies on the market today, very few have been evaluated for use in crystal mount applications. Because of this, thorough testing and evaluation of these products is necessary.Several snap-cure epoxies were tested on a limited basis. Two of these epoxies designed for low stress component attach applications were used as a crystal mount epoxy and were found not to significantly alter the curve purity of the crystal. However, it was also found that some snap-cure formulations, due to higher weight loss, can cause higher aging rates. At this time, with a limited amount of data available, it appears that in order to implement snap-cure epoxies, some compromises in product performance must be made.
