Development of 50-Ah Li-Ion Batteries for Aircraft and Spacecraft Applications

As a part of a program jointly supported by the USAF and Canada's Department of National Defense, BlueStar is developing large lithium ion cells for aircraft and spacecraft applications. The effort initially focused on a comparison of 20-Ah cells using both prismatic and cylindrical lithium ion cells and then progressed to a second generation of cylindrical 25-Ah cells and 45-Ah cells. Improvements in low temperature performance are also being pursued.
