Silver-zinc reserve cells have been demonstrated with cathodes made from chemically prepared oxides, both Ag_2O and AgO. The oxide electrodes deliver 93-96% utilization at rates up to 500ma/cm~2 over a broad temperature range of 7 to 40°C in flooded half cell tests.(1)The performance of full size reserve cells is presented. The activation and discharge capacity of the cells are reported in both an unaged and artificially aged condition.. The rise time of fresh cells at 7°C is less than 260 mSecs at rates up to 120ma/cm~2. The rise time of aged cells at room temperature increases from 160 to about 300 mSecs.No affect of aging was observed on the capacity and voltage of cells tested at 80ma/cm~2 at 20°C.
