The causes of faults and damaes in steam turbines

The author's experience of more than thirty years with steam turbines in industrial and thermal power plants has been marked by visits to 311 power plants, both at home and abroad. It was mainly connected with treating faults and damages. There are focal points of damage in steam turbines as can be established from 295 failure studies, several diagnostic reports during inspections, from the evaluation of long years of statistics complied by the power plant operators, manufacturers and insurance companies, from various subject-specific publications as well as from the historical development.
