The Andreassen distribution was adopted to design castable recipes to have good flowing values. Self-flowing mullite bonded cordierite castable compositions for kiln furniture were developed containing microsilica and 0.5percent or 6percent cement. The effects of substitution of fused alumina with cordierite aggregate on B.D., A.P. PLC, and strength were studied. 6percent and 12percent cordierite aggregate are not compatible with alumina aggregate in thermal expansion coefficient. 24percent and 28percent cordierite content is beneficial to strength and mullite formation though. The dynamic resonance frequency was measured to verify the induced flaws in the samples after cooling. The 0.5percent cement mullite bonded cordierite castables can be used at 1350deg C, while the 6percent cement mullite bonded cordierite castables be used below 1300 deg C.
