摘要

KrF excimer laser has been tried for surface modification of coated metal samples. Chromium coated mild steel and aluminum coated titanium were irradiated with KrF laser beam with various pulse energies and frequencies. Surface topography of the irradiated samples were then analyzed by SEM to observe any change in the surface porosity, melting or damage to the surface. Surface composition was analyzed by SEM/EDAX and AES analysis. Oxidation tests were also conducted on a few samples in air at 700 deg C.
