System Safety Lifecycle Based on IEC 61508 and its Use for Railway Applications

This paper addresses the system safety lifecycle of control systems based o nthe draft international standard IEC-61508 (ref. 1). Although the standard is primarily concerned with those systems that incorporate electrical/electronic/ programmable electronic devices, the framework provided in the standard can be applicable to any other safety-related systems irrespective of the technology on which those systems are based.
