Water utilities are being faced with increasingly higher standards for drinkign water and expanded demand for service.At the same time the operating costs continue to rise and the need to minimize cost presents a constant challenge.The operating constraints imposed by tighter regulations,constantly aging infrastructure,multiple water sources,seasonal variations in supply quality,and the staff requred to make it all happen,leave few avenues for significant cost reductions.Further,the need to hold the water longer as additional treatment is applied,as well as the need to cycle water in distribution systems to maintain quality,causes more energy to be expended.
