The application of Sheet Moulding Compounds (SMC) for structural body parts in the automotive industry is increasing steadily. Thus, the crash performance of SMC and its simulation possibilities are getting more and more importance. This paper deals with the simulation of crash members in axial loading using SMC. A modified composite damage model adapted to SMC has been established for LS-DYNA3D. The results are compared with experimental data.
