In pile design, non-linear relationships between horizontal subgrade reaction and displacement of piles, so-called p-y relationship, have been widely used. When using the p-y relations for pile behavior during strong earthquake motions; such asKobe Earthquake 1995, non4inear characteristics of the p-y relationship become an important issue. In this study, the p-y relationships were experimentally measured from a series of centrifuge tests using a newly developed divided pile loading system. Anattempt was also made to simulate the behavior of horizontally loaded single pile by the experimentally deduced p-y relationships.
