The paper reports the results of centrifuge tests on piled raft foundation models. The model raft consists of a circular rigid plate axially loaded on a soft layer of clay. The model piles, ideally bored beneath the raft foundation, are 6 mm indiameter; they are instrumented by means of loading cells especially designed, so the load acting on the pile head or on the pile tip was measured. A series of tests have been performed using a number of piles ranging from one to 19 beneath the plate. Moreover three models were tested: the rigid plate without pile, a single free standing instrumented pile and a solid block which simulated the upper limit of so many piles that the group acts as a block foundation. The paper describes the details ofexperiments undertaken, the adopted procedures and some of the gathered results.
