Centrifuge model experiments were conducted to examine the behavior of a plate anchor embedded in clay under different loading conditions such as monotonic pulling at a slow rate, cyclic loading, and rather rapid pulling with different speeds. The clay sample was initially consolidated under the normal gravity field from a slurry state to an ultimate high of 0.30 m, and was later teste in the centrifuge. The 25.4-mm diameter plates buried in the clay sample were pull towards the surface with a pulling mechanism attached on the container. The models represented 2-m prototype anchors when tested at 80 g. The test program provided the static capacities, cyclic behavior, and dynamic capacities of the anchor in clay at various depths.
