It has been determined that the dimensional change of a sintered P/M part can be altered through the small additions of metal sulfate powder. Initial investigations in this area focused on standard FC0208 type blends without evaluating the effects of low alloy steel powders or variations in copper and graphite additions. Also, initial investigations indicated a reduction of transverse rupture properties with minimal evaluations into the mechanisms for this effect. This investigation and paper will examine the effects of sulfate metal additions on iron powder and low alloy steel powder blends with varying amounts of copper and graphite additions. Additionally, the effects of these sulfate metal additions on final sintered properties along with the microstructural effects will be examined. Other sintered properties will be evaluated including radial crush strength.
