The case II diffusion is observed in a combination of PMMA and methanol. This type of diffusion is characterized by the formation of surface swollen layer and inner glassy core. The swollen layer is softened by swelling and compressed near the boundary under constraint by the inner core. Using these phenomena a possibility of healing of a surface pre-crack in the surface layer is examined in relation to the internal compressive stress calculated by FEM analysis and the glass transition temperature measured by DSC.
