Capacity Building And Community Management Of Village Scale Solar Photovoltaic Projects In Developing Countries: The Case Of Namara Village, Kadavu; Fiji

Despite the potential of solar photovoltaic projects in developing country communities, many projects have suffered from poor institutional arrangements, inadequate training, and a lack of community involvement. If such prjects are to be sustainable in developing countries, attention needs to be given to these issues as well as their economic and technical viability. A solar photovoltaic project in Namara village, Fiji, addresses many of these concerns and illustrates how effective institutional support from the Fiji Government, community training and management of technology, financial managemdent for operation and maintenance expenses, as well as the impelmetnation of sound and economic technology, have contributed to the success of the project.
