In this paper, we construct two special families of 2~n codes, called 2~n prime codes and 2~n extended prime coes, for all-optical code-division multiple access (AO-CDMA) applications. Such 2~n codes are obtained by "modifying" and "extending" prime codes, respectively. The cross-correlation constraint #lambda#_c of 2~n extended prime codes is equal to one, while #lambda#_c = 2 for 2~n prime codes. Moreover, the bit error rates (BER's) of AO-CDMA systems using the constructed 2~n codes are analyzed. It is shown that 2~n extended prime codes can support a larger number of active users than 2~n prime codes for a given BER.
