This paper describes a technique for obtaining high fidelity input-ouput (I/O) measurements using standard AIX monitoring tools coupled with simple post-processors. This metodology can be used to protype and benchmark application or subsystem performance for performance test and analysis or model calibration/validation. This methodology is used to compare direct access storage device (DASD) I/O performance (response time and throughput) of small computer system interface (SCSI) and system serial architecutre (SSA) attached disks on IBM RISC/6000~(TM) sorkstations.
