Baseline accounting and usage-based chargeback on unix systems

摘要

accounting for computer resource utilization in a distrihbuted enviroment is not a new concept. However it is rarely implemented as a result of the slow evolution of reliable s ystem monitors and data collectors. This paper will discuss various accounting methodooogies in use, some of which use standard monitors and others that are more creative. Each methodoogy will be presented for validity and applicability in various corporate and computing environments. Processor and disk measurements will be reviewed in both homogenous and disparate server configurations.
