The martensitic stainless steel has been seldom used for linepipes because of the poor weldability. Weldability of the martensitic stainless steel was studied in conjunction with chemical composition, particularly the effect of lowering C and N was emphasized. On the basis of the extended test, a new type of martensitic stainless steel seamless pipe with good weldability was developed for linepipes used in the CO_2 and light H_2S environment.
