SPIRS is the acronym for "Seveso Plants Information Retrieval System",an information system currently developed by the European Commission.SPIRS addresses the topic of providing information on hazard and risk related characteristics of major hazardous chemical process plants within the European Union (EU),covered by EU Directive 96/82/EC ("Seveso II Directive") on the control of major-accident hazards involving dangerous substances (you can download the Directive from http://mahb srv.jrc.it/Framework-Seveso 2-LEG-EN.html).In the following such plants shall be called "Seveso Plants" (SPs).
