The growth and acceptance of the Internet has exposed the breadth of information avaiable by electronic access far beyond the traditional information professional environment. Anyone with the appropriate hardware and software can now access data on virtually any topic instantaeously and relatively inexpensively. But just as a person walking into a library for the first time must learn how to translate the organizational design into the ability to find a book on a shelf, anyone on the threshold of a content database must be trained to appreciate the value and benefits of a similar investigative process if successful information retrieval is to be accomplished. This paper will provide specific tips and guidelines for information professionals who are either administering or introducing an end-user search program, inclduing positioning of the information center as a partner and guide in the search for information solutions.
