we propose a new I/O architecture for MPP systems that is based on coherent distributd shard-memory architecture and dedicaed I/O networks. This archtiecture is for fulfilling fundamental requiremnts for MPP I/O subsystem. i.e.(1) scalability, (2) flexibiltiy, (3) avaliability and (4) protection. The proposed I/O architecture is implemented in a massively parallel computer JUMP-1. JUMP-1 has a scalable disk I/O subsystem which consists of several I/O units connected via fast serival links called serial transparent asynchronous First-in First-out link. We evalutate the parallel I/O performance of the JUMP-1 via simulation.
