The emission invertory of gebze and air quality modelling study

This study combines and presents the findings of two related investigations. One of these is the Emission Inventories of Gebze Region documenting the emission levels of SO_2, PM10, CO, and NO_X which are generated by various sources, and the other one is the application of US-EPA (United States-Environmental Protection Agency) approved a Disperison Modelling, ISCLT (Industrial Source Complex Long Term) to the same region to estimate the concentration distribution of SO_2 and PM10 per square kilometer over a total area of 172 km~2. The emissions were categorized as area sources such as residential, commercial districts and small industries, and point sources, i.e. large industries. The entire region covering the area sources was partitioned using 1 km square grid pattern. The concentrations predicted from the model were compared with measured concentration levels. It was observed that the predictions of the model were in good agreement with the observed actual concentrations. The model was also sued for assessing a control strategy which aimed at reducing the SO_2 and particle matter concentrations via changing the fuel type used in the domestic and industrial sectors. The results of this assessment was compared with the actual current conditions.
