The Smoke Performance of Jackets and Insulations for Wire and Cable Using UL 1685 'LS' Designation

The purpose of this paper is to educate the reader concerning the smokke performnace of currently available wire and cable burned in the recently approved UL Standard 1685. The paper will: 1. Define andrelate the technical terms "halogen', "low halogen" and non halogen". 'smoke. "low smoke" and "LS rating". 2. Describe apparaturs to perform UL 1685 and define passing smoke levels. 3. Show test smoke levels of different wire and cable constructions compared to the standar 4. Show relevance of these tests to electronic gear.
