Immobilized cell culture was proposed for mass production of carrot embryos. Optimal diameter range and inoculum size of carrot callus for immobilized culture were determined. For scale-up of the embryo production in the immobilized culture, rotating mesh-basket type bioreactor with cyclone type cell separator was developed. The effect of rotational speed was examined. In the experiment at 100 rpm, almost constant values of leaked cell volume and number of plantlet formed were found to be kept during 12 d and those were 0.4 ml-pcv/d and 6000 plantlets/g-leaked cells, respectively.
