Diffraction limited observations with future large space telescopes require line of sight stabilities in the milli arcsec range. These accuracies can be achieved by a one level control system as implemented in the HST, which is based on reaction wheels and a strapdown reference system, or on a multilevel approach. In the latter case active structures and active optics are involved in order to damp out vibrations and control the residual line of sight motions. The relative merits of these control concepts have been investigated and simulation results are given.
