Based on the Penman-Monteith approach and the energy balance of the crop a method is described to estimate the effects of plant characteristics, greenhouse equipment and climate control operations on crop temperature and humidity within the canopy. Only a limited number of input parameters identified by means of on-line identification procedures is needed to calculate canopy temperature and vapour pressure deficit among leaves. First results of net radiation regime and transfer processes deduced from major theoretical considerations of plant characteristics are presented.
