The bench-top VG TRIO 1000 modular mass spectrometer (MS) system has been evaluated as a high performance liquid chromotography (HPLC) detector for the analysis of water-soluble contaminants. The particle beam (PB) HPLC-MS interface was optimised for operation in reverse phae HPLC elution. Mixture of PAH was used to test various operational characteristics of the nebuliser jet and flow setting, eluent composition and desolation temperature under flow injection analysis conditions.
