A special apparatus has been designed and built up for measuring infinite dilution partition coefficients of nine sulfur compounds in 11 solvents (pure hydrocarbons, hydrocarbon mixtures and hydrocarbon-hydrogen sulfide mixtures), between 183 and 423 K and between 0.3 and 10 MPa. At high dilution (solute-solute interactions being negligible), several solutes may be studied at the same time provided analytical conditions are well adapted. Some tests have been carried out: for the general working solute concentrations, infinite dilution K-values (K) of the various solutes all together in mixtures have been found identical to those of the same solutes but studied separately one after the other in solvents. For each system, the measurements have been performed generally at temperatures leading to total presssures defined as 0.2, 0.5 and 0.8 times the cricondenbar pressures. For the mixed solvents, two vaporized fractions f sub v have been investigated at given pressures, i.e. f sub v =0.50 and 0.75. A lot of equipment and procedure improvements, especially for the analytical part (choice of chromatograph operating conditions and columns, selection of detectors, improvement of the split device have been done all along the measurement campaign and will be partially described further.
