OZONE AND GAC TREATMENT OF ARKANSAS RIVER WATER

McGoodwin, Williams and Yates (MWY) designed and provided services during construction of an 8 MGD treatment plant for the City of Clarksville, Arkansas. The plant, utilizing water from the Arkansas River and Spadra Creek, was placed into operation in late 1993. The Arkansas Department of Health (ADH) had mandated the use of granular activated carbon (GAC). Bench scale and pilot testing confirmed the modified conventional treatment process using two-stage ozonation and GAC. The process includes pre and intermediate ozonation followed by filtration through dual media (GAC/sand) filters. Operating results show very high quality finished water, and the plant has been very economical to operate and maintain.
