Dry desulphurization of coal fuel gas by partial oxidation

The partial oxidation is a promising process for dry desulphurization of fuel gases at temperatures up to approx. 200 °C. This process significantly simplificates the Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle (IGCC) power plant technology. Experiments with High Temperature Winkler (HTW) based fuel gas at technical relevant conditions yielded desulphurization levels of > 96 % and dust S-loadings of approx. 5 wt%. These results were confirmed for real coal gas at the HTW demostration plant of the Rheinbraun AG at Berrenrath near Cologne.
