Catalyst deactivation during the initial stages of the process have been investigated, using a supported NiMo/Al_2O_3 catalyst and Mo(CO)_6 dispersed catalyst precursor. Reductions in catalyst activity have been followed by reusing recovered catalyst in the presence of fresh feed; changes in the structural characteristics of hydrocracking products as a function of time have been monitored to distinguish between catalyst deactivation and loss of sample reactivity.
