The emissions of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) during Iluidized bed combustion of u bituminous and a lignite coals as a function of temperature and coal/air ralio are studied. An increase in combustion temperature gives rise to lower total emissions for the lignite and higher for the bituminous, promoting condensation and rupture reactions, respectively. Higher emissions for the lignite and lower for the bituminous are found as coal/air ratio decreases, with the presence of oxygen favouring condensation reactions in both cases.
