Biomuss-bascd fuels arc being actively considered as cofiring fuels from an emissions viewpoint in pulverized coal fired systems. BioLime™, one of such products produced by DynaMotive Technologies Corporation, is being evaluated for simultaneous NO_x and SO_2 capture performance, and optimum operating parameters are being determined at The Pennsylvania State University.This paper discusses the results from the tests conducted in a 300,000 Btu/h Down Fired Combuster firing pulverized, high sulfur coal. The effect of temperature of injection, atomization air pressure, atomization medium and the influence of delay in the supply of combustion air for BioLime™ were investigated. 90% reduction in SO_2 emissions and up to 50% reduction in NO_x emissions were obtained during the tests.
