An attempt is made in this exploratory study to develop a conceptual framework by focusing on foreign investor strategy, host country environmental conditions and absorptive capacity, and the formulation of feasible implementation processes, as key success factors in international joint venture in China. Viable propositions are formulated for each of the key success factors that are likely to stimulate new research and theory building toward accomplishing successful international joint ventures between partners from diverse systems.
