Acoustic emission technique has been employe to identify damage mechanisms in Carbon/epoxy composites under fatigue loading. Acoustic emission characteristic of fiber breaks and matrix crackign are identified on the basis of Peak Amplitude (PA) and Event Duration (ED). This has been achieved by conducting tests on specially designed specimens in which one type of damage is expected to be predominant. Acoustic emissio ndata was analyzed using historgram and point plot procedure. It is observed that damage growth due to fiber breaks is most significant in reduction of strength and stiffness properties and damage based on acoustic emission studies does not correlates with the damage indicated by reduction i nfatigue modulus.
