Kawasaki Steel recently constructed new slab continuous casters both in his Chiba and Mizushima Works. In these constructions, new process technologies and equipment were aggvessively developed and introduced based on the experiences that had been accumulated in Kawasaki Steel through his ling time operation and various constructions of the casters, in order to achieve the performances in high quality, high productivity, reduction of resources and energy consumption. The new casters have realized; (1) High internal and external qualities, and high productivity by adequate design of machine profile, (2) Reduction of resources and energy consumption by tundish hot recycle system and the latest technology for prolonging the equipment campaign lives, (3) Reduction of operators by automated operation from molten steel supply from a ladle to a delivery of the cast slab. (4) Quick and steady hot slabs supply to hot strip mill by new delivery system. This report describes the basic design philoscophy of the continuous caster and the typical equipment technologies newly developed and introduced into the new casters.
