A case study was undertaken to evaluate the performance of Vetiver used in NWDPRA in Nashik district. It indicates that "the establishment of Vetiver and its survival percentage were directly correlated to soil type, depth of soil, quality of planting material and other managerial factors like the problem of stray cattle. In scarcity zone, use of Vetiver as a conservation measure failed, except in a few drainage line treatments. In sub-mountain zone drainage line treatments like live check dam and loose boulder structures showed excellent results, while land treatment had only narrow success. Instead of planting Vetiver merely as a barrier, a minor engineering support has given better results. It enhances the infiltration rate of the nearby plantation, arrests the silt along with fertile soil results into profuse growth of Vetiver and early achievement of predicted objectives. It also serves as identifying mark and helps during the tillage operations, especially in summer.
