An analysis of heat transfer in a fast rotating roll system is carried out. A hot film is transported between a steel roll and a roll of a soft material. The soft roll is supported by another steel roll at the opposite side. The inner surfaces of the rolls are water-cooled while the outer surfaces are cooled by combined convection and thermal radiation. The soft roll is also cooled by an impinging jet. The surface temperature of the soft roll is very important and the influence of various cooling parameters is assessed by numerical solutions to the problem. The importance of modelling the whole system of rolls has been proved.
