A simultaneous investigation of the velocity and temperature profiles of flowing polymer melts in the injection moulding process was carried out using the Cooled-Stainless Tube(CST) Technique. In this work a variety of commercial polymers were used, the processing conditions varied including injection speed, duct temperature and injection shot size. The development of the velocity and temperature profiles of flowing polymer melts was studied. It was found that the velocity and temperature profiles dramatically changed when altering the processing variables, this being due to heat conduction, shear heating, residence time and polymer molecular structure. The Application Visualisation System (AVS) was used to visualise and interpret the experimental data.
