Exact solutions are obtained for the deformations and the stress resultants in circularly curved beams and rings rsting on elastic foundations and subjected to general loads acting perpendicular to the plane of the initial curature of the beam.The governing equatios are develped from Hamilton's principle by considering the effects of bending,torsional and shearing deformations.Complete solutions of the governing equations are derived for general loading.Closed-form solutions for deformations and stress resultants are obtained for illustrative and comparative purposes relative to spcific complete and incomplete ring examples.The results are compared with those given by the classical theory of Saint Venant which neglects the effects of shaearing deformation and the slenderness of the ring.The results confirm tht the shearing deformation can have a significnat effect on the deformations and the stress resultants.
