Integration of Simulation and CAD systems for a Virtual Factory within Synthetic Environments for Manufacturing

This paper descrbes a concept of virtual factory, which is expected to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of manufacturing system development processes by creating an appropriate computer-based representation. The emphasis is placed on the use of DIS principles, and a virtual factory under development is discussed which is aimed at offering an accurate software model for both geometric and functional models, and the inter-relatonships between them. New approaches and problems in this field are dsicussed.
