Identifying New Failure Modes for an Advanced Reactor Disign1

In striving for completeness in the identification of failure modes, risk analyses for nuclear power plants need to re-examine the assumptions and boundary conditions used in analyses of conventional plants. This paper describes a simple approach for indentifying failure modes not typically addressed in conventional analyses and presents some results for a passive decay heat removal system.
