To obtain optimal design criteria for parameters of conventional and enhanced B-mode imaging systems simulations based on precise modeling are of great interest. Using a combination of the finite element method and Huygens' principle~1 and considering attenuation with a perturbation approach~2 the propagation in a homogeneous medium can be computed in a satisfactory way. However, the right way to predict pulse propagation through inhomogeneities is still a discussed topic.
