Most pressure sensitive paints (PSP) currently being used for global pressure measurements in wind tunnels require corrections for variations in model surface temperature. Usually no temperature correction is made. If a correction is made the temperature is determined by infrared thermography or by using a temperature sensitive paint (TSP) applied in areas where no PSP has been applied. By combining in one paint a temperature sensitive luminophore which is not quenched by oxygen with another one which is quenched, a temperature measurement and correction may be made at each point where pressure is measured on the model surface. A lamp with a broad band filter which transmits the necessary excitation wavelengths for both luminophores in the paint is used for illumination. Two narrow bandpass filters are mounted in a filter shuttle in front of the camera. By means of the filter shuttle the camera alternately measures the light emitted by the two luminophores. From a calibration curve for the temperature sensing luminophore and the previously determined relationship between temperature and the Stern-Volmer slope and intercept, a temperature correction to the pressure sensitive luminophore emission intensity may be applied.
