Soot volume fractions and smoke heightw of hydrocarbon fuels are postulated to be detemrined by the extent of incipient particle growht within connanular diffusin flames.The extent is determined by th distance betwwen the incipient particle and hte diffusion flame isotherms.With this description of hydrcarbon diffusion flames,the reported experimental results of Glassman,Gulder,and Santoro and hteir coworkers on the effect of additives on sooting laminar coaxial diffusion flames ahve bene reexamined.
