Full-Text and libraries: issues and implications for libraries, librarians, and library patrons

As full-text information becomes more available in libraries, many challenges arise. Librarians must adapt to these challenges in order to rpovide the best services possible to library patrons. Defining colelctions becomes more difficu costs may be shifted between materials and operating budgest; the method of delivering materials through interlibrary loan may change; and patrons must be instructed in how to use these new systems. In addition, user expectations and use patterns also change. This paper addresses many of the issues associated with full-text information resources and presents finding from a cost-benefit analysis of a full-text database.
