The Mechanisms of Sweeping Oil from Underground Strata with Non-Wood Black Liquor

The mechanisms of black liquor flooding are discussed in this paper. In most cases, the addition of black liquor results in lower IFT, lower water-oil mobility catio, and better wettability Low oil-water IFT decreases capillary forces. The relatively high viscosity of black liquor is responsible for a favorable mobility ratio. The conversion of the wettability of rocks promotes sweeping efficiency. Increases in oil recovery are derived from the synergistic effect of the above mentioned factors.
