摘要

The discharge of organochlorine from pulp bleaching is not correlated with the biological effects of pulp mill effluents and so regulation of AOX (adsorbable organic halogen) is not justified. Formation of highly chlorinated compounds is eliminated by substitution of chlorine dioxide for chlorine. Bleaching without any chlorine compounds (totally chlorine-free, TCF) is not justified based on the biological effects of effluents.
